Project
LoRa range test across mixed terrain
Baseline field measurements for packet delivery, antenna placement, and terrain effects.
Goal
Measure packet reliability over distance and note the practical effect of terrain and mounting height.
Setup
- One fixed base node
- One mobile node on a test route
- Logged RSSI, packet count, and GPS points
Early findings
| Distance | Terrain | Packet success |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0 km | open | 100% |
| 2.1 km | light tree cover | 96% |
| 3.2 km | ridge between nodes | 71% |
Notes
The first useful lesson was that antenna height mattered more than transmit power once line-of-sight started to degrade.
Next steps
- Repeat with mast height increased at the base node
- Compare stock antenna against tuned antenna
- Add a map image and path profile
